New ProTools Setup Requirements

Could you please advise me on what I need to set up an audio recording system? I was planning to buy Pro Tools 10 software to run on a laptop. Which laptop can I buy that has appropriate specs?

Could you tell me specs required and any extra hardware I would require? Many thanks.

Paul,

You don't actually need that fancy of a computer to run Pro Tools. However, a bit more than the minimum will make your experience a lot better. The requirements listed for Pro Tools 10 say that 2GB of RAM is the minimum, but 4GB is recommended. Consider 4GB to be a minimum, in my experience. You'll need 15GB of hard drive space, which shouldn't be a problem on most new laptops. Make sure it has at least several USB (2.0) ports, and a FireWire would be good, depending on the interface you choose.

Just random choices for a laptop:
Sony VAIO EH2 Series

Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-Inch

Dell XPS 15Z 15.6-Inch Laptop

Be sure to look at the audio interface page to learn more about what you need to work with the laptop.
