Bought brand new mic, Playback on recording is distorted, HELP!

Okay, so i bought a brand new sE Electronics X1 microphone, and when I record and play it back it sounds distorted and static-y, like it doesnt sound clear. I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface. Yes, I put on phantom power. I was using a Shure sm58 with no problems, and i would mess with the gain on the interface but no changes. Please help. Is my mic damaged? Is there something I've gotta do in my settings? I have windows 10.

Hey Jon,

So a little trouble shooting is in order.

- You verified that the sm58 works - good.
- Can you verify that you are not turning up the gain too far?
- Try swapping out the cable.
- Try it with phantom off - just to make sure it doesn't fix it.
- It looks like there is a switch for Line/Instr on the front. Try changing that.
- You are using a cable with XLR on both ends, right?
- Look in the audio settings of your software to see if there's something that can be adjusted.
